Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and Chairman of the General Food Security Authority (GFSA) and Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Co.’s (SALIC), Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al Fadhli, launched today, April 15, National Grain Supply Co. (SABIL).
The new company will manage the operations of grains and strategic storage in Saudi Arabia, aiming to empower the local grain sector and strengthen the Kingdom's supply chains, according to a statement.
This came in the implementation of the two Cabinet decisions to transfer the General Grain Corporation to GFSA and the formation of a steering committee to transfer operational tasks to SALIC, which is wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), under which SABIL will carry out operational tasks related to the management of silos and the strategic wheat storage system.
GFSA Governor Ahmed Al Fares indicated that during the transition phase, the authority will continue to supervise the procurement of local and imported wheat. SABIL has already started container handling of wheat from ports to milling companies, while managing and operating storage silos across the Kingdom.
SABIL will operate 14 silo branches across the Kingdom, including four branches in Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Yanbu Commercial Port, and Jazan Port, with a total storage capacity of more than 2.7 million tons.
