Saudi households' homes rise to 4.4M in 2024: GASTAT

The number of housing units occupied by Saudi households increased by about 2.7% (233,000), reaching 4.4 million in 2024, data from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

 

According to GASTAT's housing statistics bulletin, housing units occupied by Saudi households made up 50.6% of the total occupied housing units.

 

The number of individuals living in these housing units reached 21.69 million, with an average Saudi household size of 4.9 persons.

 

Riyadh ranked first in the number of housing units occupied by Saudis with over 1.05 million units, followed by Makkah with about 1.04 million units.

Regarding the type of housing, the data showed that apartments were the most common type of housing in the Kingdom, accounting for 45% of the total, or 1.97 million apartments. It was followed by villas at 31% (1.36 million villas).

At the administrative region level, owned housing (with mortgage/loan or without) had the largest share in Riyadh at 23.6%, while rental housing had the largest share in the same region at 24.5%.

 

Meanwhile, the share of employer-provided housing (government and private) was the highest in Riyadh at 36.7%.
