Details of SCFHS membership regulations

The official gazette, Umm Al-Qura, published the membership regulations of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) for 2024.

The 40-article regulations will come into effect 90 days after their publication in the official gazette.

The new regulations repeal the general regulations for classification and professional registration issued by the board of trustees in May 2017, along with their executive rules. They also nullify the professional classification and registration guide for healthcare practitioners issued in 2013, as well as all previous classification guides and any conflicting provisions.

The primary objective of these regulations is to outline the provisions for classification, registration, and granting membership.

Under Article 9, SCFHS accepts healthcare educational or training programs, provided they are offered at training centers accredited by the commission or recognized by an approved entity. The programs should meet the minimum professional competency standards equivalent to those set by SCFHS or national programs deemed equivalent by the commission.   

SCHS periodically reviews the qualifications it has recognized and equated. It reserves the right to reassess and revoke recognition if substantial changes occur in curricula or training programs. However, any revocation will not affect healthcare practitioners who were previously registered based on those qualifications before the cancellation decision.

According to Article 13, work experience alone does not substitute for the requirement of a healthcare qualification for classification unless it meets specific criteria defined by SCHS standards.
